It’s Nov. 19th, 2008. We’re here now! The ESL students brought their own special international dishes, the ESL tutors and our community partners from Altrusa International brought traditional Thanksgiving foods and now we are full. We need to say “Thank you” to Pfizer Foundation for helping to make this event possible.
Thank you for coming! We have the laptop set up and it is open to the WVLC Blog. I will ask, “What are you thankful for?” Because everyone can see the web page projected on a screen, ESL students can practice their listening, speaking and reading skills all at the same time.
The following responses from tutors, students and their children are being typed into the comment field by a volunteer tutor, as each individual decides to speak. (They are entered under my login for convenience.) The children will type their own responses after everyone else is finished.
Later: One of the gratifying moments was when I said, “It seems like only yesterday…”, a phrase that we had studied in our Tuesday class, and everyone laughed when they recognized the phrase and knew I was checking to see if they remembered.
We will add photos as soon as we can. Come back to this blog for more!
